The Project

Located in the outskirts of Guruvayoor town the site demands a design that doesn’t unnerve the spiritual aura of the setting. The four-bedroom house constitutes spaces like a central courtyard, informal living areas that encourage more family time. By following the basic set of Vastu rules and dimensions per the client’s requirements the design complements the natural circulation of light and air making the space which is highly suitable for habitation. The cautious usage of materials facilitated in articulating the spatial quality. The character of the space is defined by the raw and earthy texture of materials like laterite, clay tiles, and exposed concrete. The open patios advocate the user to indulge more with the surroundings and resonate with the genius loci of the place. The blend of materials on the peripheral skin of the house showcases the sublime fusion of traditionality and contemporality. Each element used in the design, starting from the subtle ornamentation to the wholeness of the form, accentuates and contributes to the well-roundedness of the design scheme. The doors and windows reflect the long lost yet strangely familiar connection with the visuals engraved in our memories. This has helped in creating an identity for the house which makes it traditional even though it is a design that is composed of multiple variations of styles. The well-structured circulation pattern deliberated in the house was prioritized in such a manner so as to avoid any dead spots, subsequently maintaining the ample area requirements for the rooms.
